Look, we all want to be pinterest moms sometimes. But let’s face it, pinterest moms are scary. Like…Stepford Wives scary. Seriously! I dressed up as a Pinterest Mahm for Halloween!
I mean, I looked just like my normal self but c’mon.
Truth be told, there’s no such thing as Pinterest Moms. They’re influencers, who take time and care to create things in a certain way for Pinterest.
I know this…rationally.
Irrationally I’m plagued by this ideal mom-vibe-ness of using all my craftiness to make perfect scrapbook worthy memories every. fucking. year.
And dayum is it actually exhausting.
Or well, it used to be. Until I adopted my new mantra: Anything worth doing, is worth doing poorly.
Now I have a much easier time doing and enjoying my holiday times with my kids. I pick out fewer things to be aggressively extra on, and just let more things happen, when they happen, as they happen.
So here are a few of my favorite Low-Spoon and Cheaper Crafts that I hope to do with my kids this holiday season!
Movie Marathon
For me, a movie marathon on the first snow-day of the season is my goal. I have the movies all picked out, and all I’ll need to do on the day is to make sure I’ve got easy finger food for us to munch on through the day, and enjoy the excuse to not do any chores!
Construction Paper Chains
When I was a kid, we used to do countdown calendars for Christmas with paper chains. It was supposed to help encourage me to practice counting. This year, we’re going to be doing it with “Good Wishes” and write the names of people we want good things to happen to on them.
Hot Chocolate Tea Party
Break out the “good china” (or a cup and saucer combo that matches) harvest two or three bites of a variety of snacks, and have a christmas themed tea-party. Seriously, my 9 year old son and 10 year old nephew even love it. Just because it feels fancy doesn’t mean it has to be. Hot Coca and a PB&J cut into pieces can go a long way towards making lasting memories.
Reading a holiday book together
I adore being read to. Nothing makes me feel happier or safer than the sound of someone reading to me. So I’m very much looking forward to this one this year. Pizza Demon is old enough to appreciate reading A Christmas Carol with us, though we may go with an abridged version this year.
Decorate the Kid’s Room too.
When I was little, we had a tiny little christmas tree that I got to set up in my room every year. It was a special decoration just for me.
My eldest gets some lights and decorations in his room (and I get some in mine too!)
